Noryl Sheet — Modified PPO Flat Stock for Electrical Applications

Noryl sheet provides flat stock for machined electrical enclosures, switchgear panels, terminal blocks, connector housings, and structural electrical components requiring UL 94 V-0 flame rating and excellent dimensional stability. Noryl EN265 (natural tan/gray) is the standard electrical grade sheet; GFN3 (black, 30% glass-filled) offers higher stiffness and heat deflection temperature for structural-plus-electrical applications.

At a glance:

  • Thicknesses: 0.125" – 4.0" in standard 24" × 48" sheets
  • Primary grade: EN265 (natural tan/gray, V-0) — electrical standard
  • Structural grade: GFN3 (black, V-0, glass-filled) — 2.6× stiffer than EN265
  • UL 94 V-0 at ≥0.030" minimum wall for both grades
  • Water absorption 0.07% — precise machined dimensions maintained in humid environments
  • CNC milling with standard carbide; GFN3 requires carbide tooling

Sheet vs Rod: When to Use Sheet

Use Noryl sheet for:

  • Flat prismatic components (housings, covers, panels, terminal blocks)
  • Components requiring multiple intersecting bores, pockets, or slots machined from plate
  • Large-format flat parts where the plate form minimizes waste

Use Noryl rod for:

  • Cylindrical components (bobbins, standoffs, coil formers, spacers)
  • Parts primarily defined by turned OD and bore dimensions

Thinner gauges (0.030"–0.093") may be available as sheet stock for specific electrical applications — confirm with Ready Plastics.

Noryl GFN3 Sheet

GFN3 sheet is less commonly stocked than EN265 sheet. Primary stocked thicknesses: 0.250"–1.0". Confirm availability for other thicknesses.

Primary Applications for Noryl Sheet

Switchgear Panels and Electrical Enclosures

Noryl EN265 sheet machined into switchgear panels, bus bar covers, and equipment housings provides V-0 flame protection at the required minimum wall thickness. Standard CNC milling produces mounting holes, cutouts, and slots efficiently.

Terminal Blocks and Connector Housings

Multi-gang terminal blocks and connector housings machined from Noryl sheet use the material's low dielectric constant to minimize cross-talk between adjacent conductors, and V-0 rating to meet the requirements of IEC 60947 (low-voltage switchgear) and similar standards.

RF and Microwave Components

Sheet machined into waveguide flanges, filter housings, and antenna substrate carriers uses EN265's low, stable dielectric constant (2.65 at 1 MHz–1 GHz) for predictable electrical performance.

Machining Noryl Sheet

EN265 (unfilled):

  • Face milling (finish): 350–450 SFM; 0.002–0.004 IPT
  • Slot/pocket: 200–300 SFM; 2-flute carbide
  • Tolerances: ±0.001"–0.002" on milled features

GFN3 (glass-filled):

  • Face milling (finish): 250–350 SFM; coated carbide
  • Reduced feed rates compared to EN265 to manage glass fiber abrasion
  • Flood coolant recommended for GFN3 to extend insert life
