G10 Sheet — Sizes, Thickness & Cut-to-Size
G10 sheet is a flat glass-epoxy laminate stock produced per NEMA LI 1 Grade G10 specification. Available from thin gauge stock at 0.005" through heavy plate at 4.0" and beyond, G10 sheet is the most versatile form of the material — it can be cut, routed, drilled, milled, and machined into electrical insulators, structural parts, knife handle scales, PCB blanks, washers, and custom shapes. Standard panel sizes cover most cutting requirements, and cut-to-size service is available for non-standard dimensions.
At a glance:
- Thickness range: 0.005" to 4.0" standard; heavier plate available to order
- Standard panels: 24" × 36", 36" × 48", 48" × 96"
- Tolerance: ±0.005" (thin gauge) to ±0.030" (heavy plate) per NEMA LI 1
- Color: natural (green/olive) or black
- NEMA LI 1 Grade G10; MIL-I-24768/2 Type GEE available with certification
- Cut-to-size available: custom widths, lengths, and precision-cut shapes
Standard Sheet Sizes
G10 sheet is produced in standard press-panel sizes corresponding to common industrial cutting requirements. Full panels are stocked; cut-to-size pieces are sawn or routed to order.
Standard Panel Dimensions
| Panel Size | Typical Thickness Range | Availability |
|---|---|---|
| 24" × 36" | 0.005" to 2.0" | Standard stock |
| 36" × 48" | 0.031" to 2.0" | Standard stock |
| 48" × 96" | 0.062" to 4.0" | Standard stock |
| Custom cut | Any standard thickness | Cut from full panels |
Common Gauge Thicknesses
Thickness Tolerances
NEMA LI 1 defines standard thickness tolerances for G10 sheet. These are the as-produced tolerances from the laminating press — tighter values require surface grinding or precision lapping.
| Thickness Range | Standard NEMA Tolerance |
|---|---|
| ≤ 0.125" | ±0.005" or ±10%, whichever is greater |
| 0.125" to 0.500" | ±0.010" |
| 0.500" to 1.000" | ±0.020" |
| 1.000" to 2.000" | ±0.030" |
| > 2.000" | ±0.030" or ±3%, whichever is greater |
For applications requiring tighter thickness tolerances (±0.002"–0.005"), order surface-ground G10 sheet. Ground sheet is produced by sanding or precision grinding the pressed surface to a specified thickness, with flatness typically held to 0.005" per 12" of length. Lead time and cost are higher than standard mill sheet.
Flatness
| Sheet Thickness | Flatness Standard |
|---|---|
| ≤ 0.125" | 0.015" bow per 12" of length |
| > 0.125" to 0.500" | 0.010" bow per 12" of length |
| > 0.500" | 0.008" bow per 12" of length |
Flatness improves in thicker sheet due to the higher laminate stiffness. Thin gauge sheet may require fixture clamping for precision machining operations.

Surface Finish Options
G10 sheet is available in two standard surface conditions:
Smooth (standard): The pressing surface leaves a flat, lightly glossy finish. Both surfaces are smooth as produced. This is the default for most electrical and structural applications.
Mat / Textured: One or both surfaces carry a linen-texture pattern from release film. Provides mechanical keying for adhesive bonding, encapsulation, or overmolding applications.
Surface-ground: Specified when tight thickness tolerance and flatness control are required. Both surfaces are ground to a precise final thickness.
Cut-to-Size Service
All standard G10 sheet thicknesses are available cut-to-size. Common cut services:
| Service | Description |
|---|---|
| Straight-line cutting | Rectangular blanks cut to specified length × width from full panels |
| Precision band sawing | ±0.010"–0.030" tolerance on cut dimensions |
| CNC routing | Complex contours, slots, holes in sheet panels |
| Waterjet cutting | No tool pressure; recommended for thin or delicate sheet |
| Laser cutting | Clean edges on thin gauge (< 0.125"); heat-affected zone is minimal in G10 |
All cutting and routing of G10 generates glass fiber dust. Dust extraction is in place at our facility for all cutting operations. When machining G10 in your shop, see the G10 machining safety guide for required controls.
Typical Applications for G10 Sheet
G10 sheet is the starting material for a wide range of machined and cut parts:
- Electrical insulators: Phase barriers, slot liners, coil spacers — cut or machined from sheet
- Knife handle scales: Flat sheet stock cut to handle blank dimensions, then profiled; available in black, natural, and colored variants
- PCB blanks: G10 sheet (and copper-clad variants) used for legacy MIL circuit board substrates
- Washers and terminal boards: Stamped or punch-and-die cut from thin gauge sheet
- Structural panels: Jig plates, fixture blanks, and isolation brackets machined from 1/4"–1" plate
- Cryogenic support: Thin and medium sheet used in superconducting magnet support structures
Ordering Notes
When ordering G10 sheet, specify:
- Thickness (and tolerance class: standard NEMA or ground)
- Panel size or cut-to-size dimensions
- Quantity (sheets or pieces)
- Color: Natural or Black
- Certification: Standard (NEMA LI 1) or Military (MIL-I-24768/2 Type GEE)
- Surface finish: Smooth (standard) or mat/textured
For large-format sheets (48" × 96") in thicknesses above 1", freight must be quoted separately due to weight.
