G10 Machined Parts

G10 is the workhorse of the electrical-grade fiberglass laminates — a woven-glass/epoxy composite that machines cleanly, holds tight tolerances, and delivers reliable dielectric performance across a wide temperature range. When your design calls for a precision-machined insulator, structural bracket, or mechanical component that must also resist moisture and track, G10 is the default choice.

Federal Materials machines G10 to customer prints from standard stock rod, sheet, tube, and plate. Whether you need one prototype or a production run, our CNC turning and milling cells hold the same tolerances, and every electrical part is dielectric-tested before it ships.

What We Machine in G10

  • Standoffs and spacers — round, hex, and square profiles; threaded or through-bore
  • Insulators and insulating plates — custom contours, cutouts, and slot patterns
  • Bushings and sleeves — close-tolerance ID/OD for bearing and guide applications
  • Arc barriers and arc chutes — contoured profiles for switchgear and circuit breaker assemblies
  • Structural brackets and mounting plates — drilled, tapped, counterbored to print
  • Terminal boards and panel substrates — drilled grid patterns, edge routing
  • Washers and shims — flat and step-ground, any OD/ID combination
  • Custom profiles and prototypes — one-off and short-run from sheet or rod stock

Typical Tolerances

Dimension typeProduction tolerance
Critical turned dims (OD/ID)±0.0005"
General machined dims±0.005"
Thread form2B/3B class per print
Flatness (plates ≤ 12")±0.003"
Surface finish125 µin Ra standard; 63 µin on request

Tighter tolerances are available on specific features — note them on your print or RFQ and we will confirm feasibility.

Finish Options

FinishDescription
As-machinedNatural G10 surface — clean, deburred, edges broken
Machined-to-spec edgesChamfered or radiused edges per drawing callout
Painted / markedCustomer-specified coating or marking (consult application engineering)
No surface treatmentG10 does not require passivation or plating

G10 does not absorb oils or solvents under normal machining conditions. Cut edges are sealed by the epoxy matrix; no additional edge sealing is required for most electrical applications.

Stock is maintained in commercial-grade G10 meeting NEMA LI-1 Grade G10 and MIL-I-24768 Type GP03. FR4 is stocked separately — see FR4 Machined Parts for flame-retardant-grade parts.

Quality & Inspection

Every G10 machined part order includes:

  • Dimensional inspection — first-article CMM report available on request; in-process and final inspection per print
  • Dielectric withstand testing — available for electrical insulators and switchgear components (specify on RFQ)
  • Material certification — mill cert or C of C tracing heat/lot to NEMA LI-1 Grade G10 or MIL spec
  • Visual and surface inspection — delamination check, burr-free edges, surface finish verification
  • Packaging — parts individually protected for thread and bore features; moisture-barrier packaging on request

We operate a documented quality system with full traceability from raw stock to shipped part.
