High-Temperature Glass-Reinforced Epoxy Laminate (NEMA G-11)
Ready Plastic's G-11 material, similar to its flame-resistant counterpart FR-5, is renowned for its excellent mechanical and insulative strength in a range of conditions - with resistance properties greater than those of G-10.

Material Overview
G11 rod is the cylindrical round-bar form of NEMA G-11 glass-epoxy laminate — a high-temperature thermoset composite of woven glass fabric and elevated-performance epoxy resin, produced in rod form by winding and curing under heat and pressure. G-11 rod is specified when turned or bored insulating components must perform reliably at continuous temperatures exceeding the 280°F limit of G-10 and FR-4, while maintaining the excellent machinability and electrical insulation properties of the glass-epoxy family.
G11 rod exhibits tensile strength of 63,000 psi, flexural strength of 75,000 psi, and compressive strength of 37,000 psi. Rockwell M112 hardness and a shear strength of 22,000 psi confirm the material's structural rigidity under machining loads and in-service stresses. Water absorption over 24 hours is 0.20%, maintaining dimensional stability in humid environments. The maximum continuous operating temperature is 355°F (180°C) — 75°F higher than G-10 rod — with a 94HB flammability rating.
Standards & compliance. G11 rod conforms to NEMA LI-1 Grade G-11 and is tested per ASTM D709. Ready Plastics stocks G11 rod in standard diameters as cut-to-length pieces; contact us for current size availability.
Sister grades. G-10 glass-epoxy rod is the cost-effective standard-temperature option for applications up to 280°F. FR-4 glass-epoxy rod adds UL 94 V-0 flame retardancy within the same thermal envelope. For the most extreme thermal environments — continuous service above 355°F — G-7 glass-silicone rod is rated to 425°F (220°C).

Frequently Asked Questions
G11 rod is a solid round bar made from NEMA G-11 high-temperature glass-epoxy laminate — woven glass fabric impregnated with elevated-performance epoxy resin and cured under heat and pressure. It offers 63,000 psi tensile strength and a maximum continuous operating temperature of 355°F (180°C), making it suitable for turned insulating components in high-heat industrial and electrical applications.
Ready Plastics stocks G11 glass-epoxy rod in standard diameters as cut-to-length pieces. Contact us for current diameter and length availability.
G11 rod machines similarly to G-10 rod — use carbide tooling exclusively, as the woven fiberglass reinforcement is highly abrasive. Moderate cutting speeds, positive rake inserts, and good chip clearance maintain dimensional accuracy. Dust and fiber extraction are important for operator safety when turning or drilling G11 rod.
G11 rod and G10 rod share similar mechanical properties, but G-11 uses a higher-performance epoxy resin that raises the continuous operating temperature from 280°F (G-10) to 355°F (G-11). Both carry a 94HB flammability rating. Choose G-11 when the application involves elevated temperatures that would compromise G-10's performance.
G11 rod is used for high-temperature insulating bushings, spacers, standoffs, and structural supports in transformer winding equipment, motor components, aerospace assemblies, and industrial machinery operating near or above 280°F continuous. Its 75,000 psi flexural strength and 355°F thermal rating make it appropriate where standard glass-epoxy rod grades are thermally inadequate.
