Material Overview
PEEK PVX is the highest-performance wear grade in the PEEK family — a tribologically optimized formulation combining three solid lubricants: PTFE, graphite, and carbon fiber. Each component contributes to an additive wear-reduction effect: PTFE lowers the dynamic coefficient of friction, graphite improves boundary lubrication under high contact pressure, and carbon fiber reduces wear rate and adds structural stiffness to the matrix. The result is a grade engineered for the most demanding bearing, bushing, and sliding-contact applications where service life extension and friction minimization are critical design targets.
PEEK PVX delivers significantly lower friction and wear rates than both unfilled PEEK and single-lubricant grades such as PEEK PTFE, while retaining the essential PEEK characteristics: high-temperature resistance, excellent chemical resistance, and dimensional stability. The material is designed for components that must operate in continuous sliding or rotating motion under sustained load, often without external lubrication. Consult the Ready Plastics datasheet for specific wear rate and friction coefficient data relevant to your application conditions.
Grade selection. PEEK PVX is the right choice when bearing applications are pushing the limits of single-lubricant grades. For moderate bearing loads, PEEK PTFE — internally lubricated bearing grade may be sufficient. When structural stiffness — rather than tribology — is the primary need, consider PEEK CF30 — 30% carbon-fiber reinforced or PEEK GF30. For ESD-safe cleanroom parts, see PEEK ELS. For shock-resistant structural components, PEEK MT is available.
Applications. PEEK PVX is specified for high-load bushings, thrust washers, bearing pads, wear rings, valve seats, and other components in aerospace, semiconductor, oil-and-gas, and chemical processing environments — anywhere part longevity in sliding contact matters as much as the material's thermal and chemical envelope. The material machines on conventional CNC equipment with carbide tooling; the carbon fiber content makes sharp PCD or tungsten carbide tooling preferable for volume machining. Frequently Asked Questions
PEEK PVX is a tribologically enhanced PEEK grade formulated with a triple blend of solid lubricants — PTFE, graphite, and carbon fiber. This combination delivers the lowest friction coefficient and highest wear resistance in the Ready Plastics PEEK family, making it the preferred material for high-load bushings, bearing pads, thrust washers, and other sliding-contact components that must perform without external lubrication.
PEEK PTFE contains only PTFE as its solid lubricant and is suited for moderate bearing loads. PEEK PVX adds graphite and carbon fiber to the PTFE base, achieving lower friction, higher wear resistance, and better performance under elevated contact pressure and sliding speed. For demanding duty cycles where PEEK PTFE reaches its limits, PEEK PVX is the next step.
PEEK CF30 is primarily a structural grade — its carbon fiber reinforcement is for stiffness and dimensional stability, with some inherent lubricity as a secondary benefit. PEEK PVX is purpose-formulated for tribological performance with a PTFE/graphite/carbon fiber blend specifically optimized to minimize wear and friction. For high-load, high-cycle bearing applications, PEEK PVX is the more appropriate choice.
Ready Plastics stocks PEEK PVX in rod and sheet forms for machining into precision bearing components. Contact Ready Plastics for current stock dimensions and cut-to-length availability.
Yes. PEEK PVX machines well on CNC turning and milling equipment. The carbon fiber component makes the material moderately abrasive, so sharp carbide or PCD tooling is recommended for best tool life and surface finish. Standard PEEK machining parameters — moderate speeds, sharp edges, minimal coolant — apply.
