Material Overview

What is PEEK?

PEEK GF30 is a 30% glass-fiber-reinforced grade of PEEK — polyetheretherketone — designed for structural applications that need improved rigidity and dimensional stability over unfilled PEEK while retaining full electrical insulation. The glass fiber reinforcement increases stiffness and reduces creep under sustained load without the conductivity introduced by carbon fiber, giving PEEK GF30 material a distinct place in the PEEK family wherever both mechanical and dielectric performance are specified together.

PEEK GF30 carries a tensile strength of 26,000 psi (181 MPa) and a tensile modulus of 1,609,000 psi (11,100 MPa) — nearly three times the stiffness of unfilled PEEK. Impact toughness (Charpy) is 64 kJ/m², and elongation at break is 2.8%. Long-term service temperature reaches 500°F (260°C), with short-term capability to 570°F (300°C). Volume resistivity is maintained at 10¹⁴ Ω·cm, preserving the dielectric insulation of unfilled PEEK. Density is 1.51 g/cm³.

Grade selection. PEEK GF30 sits between unfilled PEEK and PEEK CF30 in the reinforced structural grades. Choose GF30 when stiffness is needed alongside electrical insulation — typically for pump housings, valve bodies, and electrical connector components. When maximum stiffness is more important than insulation, step up to PEEK CF30 — 30% carbon-fiber reinforced (tensile modulus 3,538,000 psi). For bearing and sliding wear applications, see PEEK PTFE — bearing grade or PEEK PVX — triple-blend wear grade. ESD-safe parts in cleanroom environments belong in PEEK ELS.

Machining and applications. PEEK GF30 machines well on CNC equipment with carbide tooling; the glass fiber content is less abrasive than carbon fiber, but sharp tooling and moderate cutting parameters extend tool life and improve surface finish. Typical applications include structural housings, manifolds, load-bearing brackets, and high-temperature electrical insulators across aerospace, semiconductor, and industrial pump markets. Frequently Asked Questions

PEEK, answered

What is PEEK GF30?

PEEK GF30 is a grade of PEEK (polyetheretherketone) reinforced with 30% glass fiber by weight. The reinforcement increases tensile strength to 26,000 psi and tensile modulus to 1,609,000 psi compared to unfilled PEEK, while retaining full electrical insulation with a volume resistivity of 10¹⁴ Ω·cm. It is suited for structural applications that require greater rigidity than unfilled PEEK without sacrificing dielectric performance.

What is the difference between PEEK GF30 and PEEK CF30?

Both add 30% fiber reinforcement, but glass fiber in GF30 gives a lower tensile modulus (1,609,000 psi) than carbon fiber in CF30 (3,538,000 psi), and — critically — GF30 remains a full electrical insulator (volume resistivity 10¹⁴ Ω·cm) while CF30 is conductive (10⁴ Ω·cm). GF30 also has higher Charpy impact strength (64 kJ/m² vs. 44 kJ/m²). Choose GF30 for structural parts requiring insulation; choose CF30 for maximum stiffness and inherent lubricity where conductivity is acceptable.

What shapes does Ready Plastics stock in PEEK GF30?

Ready Plastics stocks PEEK GF30 in sheet and rod forms. Contact Ready Plastics for current stock dimensions, available thicknesses, and cut-to-length service.

Can PEEK GF30 be machined?

Yes. PEEK GF30 machines on conventional CNC turning, milling, and drilling equipment. Glass fiber is less abrasive than carbon fiber, but sharp carbide tooling and moderate cutting speeds are still recommended to maintain tool life and achieve clean surface finishes. Avoid excessive heat buildup — light coolant or air blast is beneficial.

Is PEEK GF30 the same as PEEK GF30 material used in injection molding?

Not exactly. Ready Plastics stocks PEEK GF30 as extruded or compression-molded stock shapes — sheet and rod — intended for precision machining into finished parts. Injection-molded PEEK GF30 parts are made directly to a net shape from pellets and may have different property orientations. Contact Ready Plastics if you need machined blanks or stock shapes rather than molded components.
