PPSU Sheet — Thicknesses, Sizes & Stock Forms

PPSU sheet is flat stock produced from polyphenylsulfone (PPSU), a high-performance amorphous thermoplastic combining superior impact resistance, excellent hydrolytic stability, and broad thermal capability. PPSU sheet is used for fabricated components in medical, aerospace, plumbing, and industrial applications where flat parts must withstand repeated sterilization, hot-water immersion, or harsh cleaning processes without degrading mechanically or dimensionally.

At a glance:

  • Thickness range: standard thicknesses available for fabrication
  • Standard sheet sizes: standard panel sizes available
  • Material: Polyphenylsulfone (PPSU)
  • Color: Amber/translucent (natural)
  • Excellent hydrolytic stability — resists steam and sterilization cycles
  • Superior impact resistance compared to PSU and PEI

Typical Applications

PPSU sheet is fabricated into flat components for demanding service environments:

  • Medical tray and housing components — autoclave compatibility for repeated steam sterilization cycles
  • Aerospace interior panels and brackets — toughness and dimensional stability in aviation environments
  • Plumbing system components — hydrolytic stability for hot-water and steam service
  • Food processing equipment panels — resists aggressive cleaning and sanitizing agents
  • Industrial pump and valve body sections — toughness and thermal reliability in fluid-handling systems
  • Research laboratory apparatus components — chemical resistance and dimensional stability for scientific equipment

Machining PPSU Sheet

PPSU sheet machines well with standard plastics fabrication equipment. Table saws with fine-tooth carbide blades, CNC routers with O-flute bits, and waterjet cutters all produce clean edges and profiles. Drill, mill, and tap with conventional carbide tooling at moderate feeds and speeds to avoid heat buildup. PPSU produces consistent chips without gumming. Tolerances comparable to other amorphous high-performance thermoplastics are achievable with careful machining practice.
