POM-H Tube — IDs, ODs, Wall Thicknesses & Lengths

POM-H tube is hollow cylindrical stock produced from acetal homopolymer (polyoxymethylene homopolymer), offering the higher mechanical strength and fatigue resistance of POM-H in a pre-formed tubular shape. Starting from tube rather than boring solid rod saves significant machining time for hollow components such as high-load bushings, bearing sleeves, and precision annular parts.

At a glance:

  • Standard OD range: approximately 1" to 6" with matching ID dimensions
  • Wall thicknesses: standard and heavy wall options available
  • Standard lengths: 2 ft and 4 ft
  • Material: Acetal Homopolymer — Polyoxymethylene Homopolymer (POM-H)
  • Color: Natural (white/off-white)
  • Water absorption (24 h / 96 h): 0.05 / 0.1 % — stable bore dimensions in service

Typical Applications

POM-H tube stock is specified where hollow components must carry elevated mechanical loads:

  • High-load plain bearings and sleeve bushings — higher strength supports greater radial and axial loads vs. copolymer grades
  • Precision gear shaft bushings — fatigue resistance for high-cycle gear and shaft interfaces
  • Automation and robotics guide sleeves — dimensional stability under sustained mechanical loads
  • Pump and valve internals — chemical resistance in light-duty fluid applications
  • Bearing retainer rings — stiffness maintains geometry under combined loading
  • Tooling and fixture components — dimensional accuracy critical for production tooling

Machining POM-H Tube

POM-H tube machines cleanly on a lathe with standard carbide or HSS turning inserts. Its higher crystallinity compared to copolymer acetal provides a slightly firmer chip but does not require changes to tooling or basic approach. Maintain consistent clamping pressure to avoid distortion on thin-wall sections — use soft jaws or a plug mandrel for the bore when finish-turning the OD. Parting and facing produce clean, burr-free surfaces at standard parameters.
