Delrin Sheet — Thicknesses, Sizes & Ordering (POM-H Acetal)

Delrin sheet (acetal homopolymer, POM-H) is extruded flat stock in thicknesses from 0.062" through 4.0", used for flat-profile machined parts, wear strips, jigs, fixtures, and cam profiles. Standard sheet sizes are 24"×48" and 48"×96". Cut-to-size is available. Natural (white/ivory) and black are the standard colors; FDA-compliant 150SA is natural only.

At a glance:

  • Thickness range: 0.062" to 4.0" (standard stocked sizes)
  • Standard sheet sizes: 24"×48" and 48"×96"
  • Thickness tolerance: ±10% of nominal (ASTM D6100 standard)
  • Grades: Delrin 150 natural, 150 black, 500 natural, 500 black, 150SA (FDA)
  • Primary keyword: "delrin sheet" — US volume 400/month, transactional intent
  • Do NOT laser-cut Delrin sheet — use waterjet, bandsaw, or CNC router

What Is Delrin Sheet Used For?

Delrin sheet is the starting point for flat machined parts:

  • Wear strips and guide rails in conveyor and material-handling equipment
  • Gussets, spacers, and shims in precision mechanical assemblies
  • Cam profiles and detent plates in cam-driven mechanisms
  • Jigs and fixtures for machine shops and assembly lines
  • Valve plates and flapper valves in pump assemblies
  • Electrical insulating panels in switchgear and terminal blocks
  • Food-contact surfaces in processing equipment (150SA grade)

Where the part geometry is flat — or has mostly flat features — starting from sheet stock is more material-efficient than starting from rod.

Tolerances shown are 10% of nominal per ASTM D6100. Precision-ground sheet (±5% or tighter) is available to special order; specify when your drawing requires thickness tolerance tighter than standard.

Sheet Flatness

Standard extruded Delrin sheet has a flatness of approximately 0.025"/ft over the sheet length. This is adequate for most machining setups — the sheet is clamped to the machine table or vacuum fixture, and any bow is taken out.

For applications requiring precision flat surfaces (surface plates, precision measurement fixtures, optical mount bases), precision-ground Delrin sheet is available with total thickness variation of ±0.005" over the full sheet. Ask about this when ordering.

Cutting Delrin Sheet

Waterjet Cutting

The preferred method for production-quantity flat-profile parts. Tolerances of ±0.010–0.015" standard; ±0.005" precision waterjet. No heat-affected zone; clean edges.

CNC Router

Excellent for moderate-to-large parts from sheet. O-flute (single-flute) or 2-flute upcut carbide bits; 400–700 SFM; chip load 0.003–0.006 IPT. Vacuum table or double-sided tape workholding for thin sheet.

Bandsaw

Appropriate for straight cuts and rough blanking. Bi-metal blade, 6–10 TPI for standard thicknesses; 4–6 TPI for sheets over 1.0" thick. Control feed rate to prevent binding and heat buildup.

DO NOT Laser Cut

Laser cutting Delrin generates formaldehyde gas — a serious occupational health hazard. This applies to all POM materials (both POM-H and POM-C). Do not laser-cut Delrin sheet regardless of machine power or laser type. Use waterjet or router as the safe alternative.

Grade Selection for Delrin Sheet

Delrin 150 (natural or black): The standard extrusion grade for stock-shape sheet; best surface quality and dimensional consistency. Default choice for precision machined flat parts.

Delrin 500 (natural or black): Marginally lower cost; suitable for general-purpose flat parts where the surface quality of 150 is not specifically required.

Delrin 150SA (natural only): FDA 21 CFR 177.2480-compliant grade for food-contact applications. Natural color only. Specify when parts contact food, food packaging surfaces, or beverage ingredients. See Delrin FDA food-grade compliance.

Black Delrin: Carbon-black pigmented for visual contrast or aesthetic requirements. Not ESD-dissipative; not typically FDA-compliant without specific grade documentation.

Cut-to-Size Ordering

Cut-to-size Delrin sheet is available with the following standard options:

  • Straight-line cuts (rectangles): standard service; typical tolerance ±0.125" on cut dimensions
  • Precision saw cuts: tolerance ±0.030" on cut dimensions; available for most thicknesses
  • Waterjet-cut profiles: for complex shapes; tolerance ±0.010–0.015" standard

Specify material, thickness, grade, color, and cut dimensions when ordering. Provide a DXF file for complex profiles cut to shape.

Machining Delrin Sheet

Sheet stock is commonly machined on a CNC vertical machining center (VMC). Setup notes:

  • Workholding: Vacuum table ideal for thin sheet (0.062"–0.250"); clamps or double-sided tape for thicker sections
  • First operation: Face the back side to establish a flat reference if the sheet has any bow from extrusion
  • Tolerances achievable: ±0.002" in profile milling from a rigid setup; ±0.001" with careful toolpath and finish passes
  • Countersinks and counterbores: Machine cleanly; Delrin does not chip or fracture like brittle plastics
