Material Overview
POM-H PTFE is an internally lubricated acetal homopolymer that combines the high mechanical strength and stiffness of POM-H with the friction-reducing and wear-extending performance of PTFE (polytetrafluoroethylene). The PTFE is dispersed uniformly throughout the homopolymer matrix, creating a self-lubricating material that operates without external lubrication in continuous sliding and high-load contact applications. Ready Plastics stocks POM-H PTFE sheet for demanding wear-critical components in industrial and precision machinery.
Where standard POM-H already provides excellent wear resistance, the PTFE addition in POM-H PTFE further reduces the coefficient of friction and slows surface wear in high-load assemblies. This combination makes POM-H PTFE especially effective in high-load bearings, heavy-duty slides, precision wear pads, and components in continuous-operation machinery where both structural integrity and low friction are required simultaneously. The PTFE lubricant also helps reduce noise and vibration in dynamic assemblies.
Mechanical and dimensional performance. POM-H PTFE maintains the core mechanical benefits of the POM-H base: high tensile and flexural strength, excellent fatigue resistance, and low moisture absorption. These properties ensure the material holds its dimensions and structural integrity under sustained mechanical loading. Machinability is good on conventional CNC and manual equipment. For detailed mechanical and tribological data, consult the datasheet.
Sister grades. For applications requiring maximum stiffness, see POM-H GF20 (glass-fiber reinforced). For outdoor-exposed environments, POM-H UV provides UV stabilization. For PTFE-lubricated copolymer acetal at lower cost, see POM-C PTFE.
Frequently Asked Questions
POM-H PTFE is an internally lubricated acetal homopolymer containing uniformly dispersed PTFE. The PTFE reduces friction and improves wear resistance while the homopolymer base provides high tensile strength, stiffness, and fatigue resistance. It is used for high-load sliding and wear-critical applications where both strength and low friction are required.
Both grades incorporate PTFE for internal lubrication, but the base polymer differs. POM-H PTFE uses the homopolymer base, which offers higher tensile strength, stiffness, and fatigue resistance. POM-C PTFE uses the copolymer base, which provides better chemical resistance and thermal stability. Choose POM-H PTFE when maximum mechanical performance is required; choose POM-C PTFE for general-purpose low-friction applications.
No. The PTFE is integrated into the material during formulation, so POM-H PTFE is self-lubricating. It operates without grease or oil in dry-running applications, reducing maintenance requirements and making it suitable for clean-running machinery.
Yes. POM-H PTFE machines well on standard CNC and manual equipment. The PTFE additive does not significantly change machinability relative to unfilled POM-H, and the material holds tight tolerances with good surface finish.
POM-H PTFE is used for high-load bearings, heavy-duty slides, precision wear pads, cam followers, and continuous-operation machinery components where the combination of structural strength and low friction is critical. It is particularly effective when external lubrication is impractical or undesirable.
