Material Overview
POM-C PTFE is an internally lubricated acetal copolymer formulated with polytetrafluoroethylene (PTFE) to deliver significantly reduced friction and improved wear resistance compared to unfilled POM-C (Acetal Copolymer). The PTFE is uniformly dispersed throughout the polymer matrix, creating a self-lubricating structure that functions continuously without external lubrication. Ready Plastics stocks POM-C PTFE sheet for guides, slides, and dynamic assemblies in automated and precision machinery.
The PTFE additive is particularly effective at eliminating stick-slip behavior — the erratic motion that occurs when static friction exceeds kinetic friction — making POM-C PTFE the preferred choice for applications requiring smooth, consistent, low-force motion. High-cycle guides, bearing pads, linear slides, and cam followers all benefit from the material's combination of low starting friction, low running friction, and quiet operation. Its wear resistance is improved over standard copolymer acetal, extending component service intervals in demanding dynamic applications.
Dimensional and mechanical performance. POM-C PTFE retains the dimensional stability, mechanical strength, and low moisture absorption of the POM-C base. It machines cleanly on standard CNC and manual equipment, holds tight tolerances, and performs consistently in both dry and humid environments. For full property data, consult the datasheet.
Sister grades. For applications where higher loads are present and MoS₂-based lubrication is preferred, see POM-C Moly. For shock or impact resistance, choose POM-C MT. For ESD-controlled environments, POM-C SD is available. If high strength with PTFE lubrication is needed, see POM-H PTFE.
Frequently Asked Questions
POM-C PTFE is an internally lubricated acetal copolymer with PTFE dispersed throughout the polymer matrix. The PTFE reduces friction, eliminates stick-slip behavior, and improves wear resistance in sliding and dynamic applications. Ready Plastics stocks POM-C PTFE sheet for guides, slides, and automated machinery components.
Both are internally lubricated grades of POM-C, but they use different lubricant additives. POM-C PTFE uses polytetrafluoroethylene, which excels at eliminating stick-slip and providing very low friction in lighter-load dynamic applications. POM-C Moly uses molybdenum disulfide (MoS₂), which is better suited for higher-load sliding contact and metal-to-plastic interfaces.
No. The PTFE lubricant is integrated into the material at the formulation stage, so POM-C PTFE is self-lubricating. It functions without grease or oil lubrication, which is advantageous in clean-running applications, food-adjacent environments, or assemblies where re-lubrication is impractical.
Yes. POM-C PTFE machines similarly to standard POM-C on conventional CNC and manual equipment. The PTFE additive does not significantly alter machinability, and the material produces clean cuts and good surface finishes while holding tight tolerances.
POM-C PTFE is used for linear slides, guide rails, bearing pads, cam followers, high-cycle wear components, and motion assemblies in automated machinery where smooth, quiet operation and extended wear life are required without external lubrication.
