Material Overview
What is PEEK MT?
PEEK MT is a modified grade of PEEK — polyetheretherketone — engineered to deliver enhanced impact toughness and resistance to mechanical shock compared to standard unfilled PEEK. Where standard PEEK prioritizes stiffness and strength, PEEK MT is formulated to absorb sudden loads and vibration without brittle fracture, making it the right grade for components exposed to repeated dynamic loading or impact events in high-temperature, chemically demanding environments.
PEEK MT retains the core attributes of the PEEK family: excellent thermal stability, broad chemical resistance, and the dimensional control that makes PEEK a precision machining material. The toughness modification improves resistance to crack initiation and propagation under impact, reducing the risk of unexpected part failure in service. Specific mechanical property values are available in the Ready Plastics datasheet — contact Ready Plastics for detailed specifications.
Grade selection. Choose PEEK MT when your application subjects components to vibration, shock, or fatigue loading that would stress standard PEEK beyond its notch sensitivity limits. For applications where maximum stiffness and dimensional stability under static load matter most, consider PEEK CF30 — 30% carbon-fiber reinforced. For wear-critical sliding parts, PEEK PTFE — bearing grade and PEEK PVX — triple-blend wear grade are better fits. Cleanroom and semiconductor applications requiring ESD safety belong with PEEK ELS.
Applications. PEEK MT is used in aerospace structural components, downhole oil-and-gas tooling, and industrial equipment where sudden load events are expected and material toughness is a design requirement alongside high-temperature performance. The material machines to the same standards as standard PEEK — carbide tooling on CNC equipment, moderate speeds, minimal coolant. Contact Ready Plastics for current stock availability in sheet and rod, and for complete datasheet specifications.
Frequently Asked Questions
PEEK MT, answered
What is PEEK MT?
PEEK MT is a modified grade of PEEK (polyetheretherketone) formulated to provide enhanced impact toughness and resistance to mechanical shock compared to standard unfilled PEEK. It retains PEEK's high-temperature stability, chemical resistance, and dimensional stability, making it suitable for components that must survive dynamic loading, vibration, or sudden impact events in demanding environments.
What is the difference between PEEK MT and standard PEEK?
Standard PEEK is optimized for tensile strength and stiffness, with notch sensitivity that can lead to brittle fracture under high-impact loading. PEEK MT is modified to reduce this sensitivity, improving resistance to crack initiation under impact and repeated dynamic loads. The trade-off is a slight reduction in stiffness compared to standard or fiber-reinforced grades; the benefit is greatly improved durability in shock and vibration environments.
What is the difference between PEEK MT and PEEK CF30 for structural applications?
PEEK CF30 prioritizes stiffness and compressive strength — it is the best choice for structural parts under sustained mechanical load requiring maximum rigidity. PEEK MT prioritizes toughness and impact resistance — it is the better choice when components are subject to sudden loads, drops, or vibration. For static structural applications, CF30 generally outperforms MT; for dynamic or shock-prone applications, MT is the more appropriate grade.
