Material Overview

What is PC GF10?

PC GF10 is a lightly glass-fiber-reinforced grade of polycarbonate (PC), incorporating 10% glass fiber to increase stiffness and reduce creep while preserving polycarbonate's well-known impact toughness. It represents a balanced intermediate between unfilled PC and more heavily reinforced grades, suited to applications that need both rigidity and impact resistance.

The 10% glass loading raises flexural modulus relative to unfilled polycarbonate, improving resistance to deflection under load and reducing thermal expansion — key attributes for precision housings and structural brackets that must hold geometry across temperature cycles. Despite the reinforcement, PC GF10 retains good machinability and can be fabricated on standard shop equipment with carbide tooling.

Typical applications include precision enclosures, bracket assemblies, structural frames, and components where unfilled PC shows too much flex or creep under sustained loading. PC GF10 is a common upgrade from unfilled polycarbonate in demanding mechanical environments.

For higher stiffness, see PC GF20 — 20% glass-filled polycarbonate. For maximum impact resistance without reinforcement, see unfilled PC. Contact Ready Plastics for available dimensions and to request a quote.

Frequently Asked Questions

PC GF10, answered

What is PC GF10?

PC GF10 is polycarbonate reinforced with 10% glass fiber. The glass loading increases stiffness and reduces creep compared to unfilled PC while retaining polycarbonate's excellent impact resistance — making it a balanced choice for precision structural components.

How does PC GF10 differ from PC GF20?

PC GF10 has 10% glass fiber content versus 20% in PC GF20. PC GF20 is stiffer and more dimensionally stable but has somewhat lower impact resistance. Choose PC GF10 when a balance of toughness and rigidity is needed; choose PC GF20 when maximum stiffness is the priority.

Is PC GF10 transparent?

No. Glass fiber reinforcement eliminates the optical clarity of polycarbonate. PC GF10 is an opaque material. For transparent applications, use unfilled PC.

What shapes does Ready Plastics stock in PC GF10?

Ready Plastics stocks PC GF10 in rod and flat plate for precision machining. Contact us for available dimensions and lead times.

Can PC GF10 be machined?

Yes, though glass fibers make it more abrasive than unfilled polycarbonate. Carbide tooling is recommended. With proper speeds and feeds, PC GF10 machines to tight tolerances and good surface finish.
