Material Overview
POM-C MT is a toughened, modified acetal copolymer engineered to deliver improved impact resistance and resistance to mechanical shock while retaining the dimensional stability and machinability of standard POM-C (Acetal Copolymer). Where base POM-C may be vulnerable to cracking under sudden loading, POM-C MT absorbs impact energy more effectively, making it the preferred grade for components exposed to vibration, repeated loading, or occasional shock. Ready Plastics stocks POM-C MT sheet for structural and precision machining applications.
The toughening modification in POM-C MT provides enhanced resistance to cracking and impact-induced failure without significantly compromising the material's core mechanical strength and stiffness. This balanced profile — toughness alongside dimensional accuracy — makes POM-C MT a dependable choice for structural components in mechanical assemblies, precision housings, and parts that must survive dynamic loading cycles without sacrificing ease of machining.
Stability and machinability. Like all copolymer acetal grades, POM-C MT exhibits low moisture absorption and good chemical resistance, allowing it to maintain dimensional accuracy in challenging environments. It machines cleanly on conventional CNC and manual equipment, making it suitable for complex part geometries requiring tight tolerances. For specific property data, consult the datasheet.
Sister grades. For sliding wear applications, choose POM-C Moly (MoS₂ lubricated) or POM-C PTFE (PTFE lubricated) to reduce friction and extend wear life. For ESD-controlled environments, POM-C SD provides static-dissipative properties. When maximum mechanical strength is the priority, consider POM-H (Acetal Homopolymer).
Frequently Asked Questions
POM-C MT is a toughened, modified acetal copolymer designed to provide improved impact resistance and resistance to mechanical shock compared to standard POM-C. It maintains excellent dimensional stability and machinability, making it suitable for components exposed to vibration, repeated loading, or occasional impact in industrial and mechanical applications.
Standard POM-C is an excellent general-purpose acetal with strong dimensional stability and low friction. POM-C MT adds a toughening modification that significantly improves impact resistance and resistance to cracking under shock loading, while preserving the core machinability and dimensional accuracy of the copolymer base.
Yes. POM-C MT machines similarly to standard POM-C on conventional CNC and manual equipment. The toughening modification does not adversely affect machinability, and the material holds tight tolerances with a smooth surface finish.
POM-C MT is used for structural components in mechanical assemblies, precision housings, vibration-exposed parts, impact-resistant guides, and machined components in industrial equipment where occasional shock loading could cause cracking in standard acetal grades.
POM-C MT is optimized for toughness and impact resistance. POM-C Moly and POM-C PTFE are internally lubricated grades optimized for reduced friction and improved wear life in sliding applications. The right choice depends on whether your primary requirement is impact resistance (MT) or low friction/wear (Moly or PTFE).
