Material Overview
POM-C Moly is an internally lubricated acetal copolymer formulated with molybdenum disulfide (MoS₂) to enhance sliding performance beyond what standard POM-C provides. The MoS₂ additive is distributed throughout the polymer matrix, creating a self-lubricating structure that reduces surface friction and slows wear without requiring external lubrication. Ready Plastics stocks POM-C Moly sheet for motion-control, material-handling, and industrial machinery applications.
In dry-running or marginally lubricated assemblies, POM-C Moly offers measurably reduced friction compared to unfilled copolymer acetal. The MoS₂ particles act as a solid lubricant at the wear interface, supporting smooth, continuous motion and helping extend the service life of components in demanding sliding and rotating contact. This makes POM-C Moly well suited for wear pads, slide blocks, guide rails, and cam followers where component life and noise reduction are priorities.
Mechanical and dimensional performance. POM-C Moly retains the core mechanical strength, dimensional stability, and low moisture absorption characteristic of standard POM-C (Acetal Copolymer). It maintains tight tolerances in humid or variable environments and machines cleanly on conventional CNC and manual equipment. For specific property values, refer to the datasheet.
Sister grades. For applications requiring lower friction and more pronounced stick-slip reduction, consider POM-C PTFE, which uses PTFE as the internal lubricant instead of MoS₂. For impact-resistant machined parts, see POM-C MT. For ESD-controlled environments, POM-C SD provides static-dissipative properties while retaining the machinability of the copolymer base.
Frequently Asked Questions
POM-C Moly is an internally lubricated acetal copolymer containing molybdenum disulfide (MoS₂) dispersed throughout the polymer matrix. The MoS₂ acts as a solid lubricant to reduce friction and improve wear resistance in dry-running or marginally lubricated sliding applications. Ready Plastics stocks POM-C Moly sheet for industrial and motion-control applications.
Standard POM-C offers the base properties of acetal copolymer — good dimensional stability, low friction, and excellent machinability. POM-C Moly adds molybdenum disulfide to the formulation, which lowers the coefficient of friction further and improves wear resistance for sliding and rotating contact applications, extending component service life.
Both grades are internally lubricated, but they use different lubricant additives. POM-C Moly uses molybdenum disulfide (MoS₂), which is particularly effective in applications involving higher loads and metal contact. POM-C PTFE uses PTFE, which excels at minimizing stick-slip behavior and provides a very low coefficient of friction in dynamic applications with lighter loads.
Yes. POM-C Moly machines similarly to standard POM-C, producing clean cuts and smooth surfaces on conventional CNC and manual equipment. The MoS₂ additive does not significantly affect machinability, so the material holds tight tolerances and requires no special tooling.
POM-C Moly is commonly used for wear pads, slide blocks, guide rails, cam followers, bushings, and other components in material handling systems, automotive assemblies, and industrial machinery where reduced friction and extended wear life are required without external lubrication.
